Join historian, author and host of the podcast Three Castles Burning, Donal Fallon, on this specially-commissioned walking tour of one of Dublin’s most fascinating square miles: eternal home to one of the finest collections of Victorian memorials, tombs, vaults and crypts in Ireland.
Amidst the headstones you’ll encounter important names in the Irish supernatural tradition like William Wilde and Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, and hear of their links to Bram Stoker and the Dublin of his time.

The surrounding areas of Harold’s Cross are in various states of construction, with some pathways being obstructed by maintenance work and scaffolding. Some of the pathways are uneven and narrow, particularly at the junction leading to Mount Jerome Cemetery. Directly across the road from the cemetery is Harold’s Cross Park, this park has smooth pathways throughout, but some are on hilly inclines.

Entry
People attending this tour will meet at the gates to Mount Jerome. This is a paved roadway that is used by cars. A speed limit of 15 km/h is in place, so people can walk on the road as there is no designated pedestrian path.
Space
Mount Jerome Cemetery is a large graveyard spanning 47 acres between Harold’s Cross and Crumlin. The first burial happened here in 1836, and over 225,000 interments have taken place over the last 185 years. There are a number of different walking routes here, and the main pathways are paved with tarmac. The internal pathways are gravelled, and some may be quite narrow.

There is an accessible WC located beside the Mount Jerome Victorian Chapel, where the ladies and gents toilets are also located. The accessible WC has step-free entry, and the other toilets have approximately eight stone steps leading up to it with a handrail on either side.
