From Egyptomania to medical theories, current affairs to the writings of other authors, Bram Stoker drew on a range of interests and influences in his work.
What were these ideas? Where did they come from? How did they come to shape the writing of one of the world’s most famous Gothic authors?
Professor Jarlath Killeen of Trinity College Dublin and Dr Jason McElligott of Marsh’s Library will join forces at the National Library of Ireland to discuss the many influences on Stoker’s work.
Looking at Victorian society, religion, personalities and literature, this discussion will reveal the mind and times of the man who left a global mark on the horror genre.
Professor Jarlath Killeen is Professor of English at Trinity College Dublin, with an established focus on popular Victorian literature, the Gothic and horror. Dr Jason McElligott is Director of Marsh’s Library, where Bram Stoker was a patron, and has written extensively on early modern and Victorian society.
