Blood. The Irish have been dining on it for centuries and they love it.
It has sustained warriors in epic battles, staved off hunger and was offered as protection from bad luck. It’s been drawn from living animals and caught from dead ones, stuffed into guts and boiled, or stirred into bloody porridges over turf fires.
Mostly we know it as a moody melange of blood and guts that completes the breakfast fry. But blood is one of our oldest foods, from a time when the Irish diet was one of milky, oaty, salty things, celebrated for the many ways it is cooked, eaten and enjoyed. Yet, this is a food in danger of disappearing forever and so we must also ask what else is lost when the blood is gone.
Blood, Guts & Black Pudding has been described by Darina Allen as “an incredibly important book” about Ireland’s traditional food culture. Kate Ryan, author of Blood, Guts & Black Pudding, will be in conversation with chef Andrew Rudd, exploring why we should fall in love with puddings all over again, before a tasting of black pudding from various blood pudding makers still going strong in Dublin.

This is a ticketed event. Tickets are €20 + €1 booking fee.

Located on Fleet Street East in the Old Irish Times Building in Dublin city centre. Readily accessed via city bus corridors, Red and Green Line Luas stops and Tara Street DART station.
Footpaths are paved and level, with occasional cobbled patches.

Entry
The main entrance to Medley is at street level with double doors and step-free access; no steps or lifts are required to enter the venue. Venue staff will be available at the door to assist.
Space
Medley is arranged across two floors: Ground Floor and Mezzanine level. Both floors are accessible by stairs and by passenger lift.
Ground Floor: Main entrance, event space, bar, and all bathroom facilities (including accessible WC).
Mezzanine: Additional event and dining space, and a second bar.
Accessible Bathroom / WC
The accessible toilet is located on the ground floor. It does not require a key or passcode and is fitted with handrails.
Bar
The bar will not be open for this event.
Performance Space
The main performance area is generally located on the mezzanine level, which has a flat, level surface and is fully accessible via lift. Wheelchair users can be accommodated seamlessly alongside other patrons.
Seating
A combination of standard-height dining tables/chairs and high tables with bar stools. Standard dining chairs do not have armrests. All furniture is moveable and adaptable for wheelchair users.
Sound
Background music will play through the house PA system; external audio equipment will be used for live performances. No hearing induction loop is available. Ear defenders are not provided on site.
Lighting
The venue features natural light through full glass fronting, along with dimmable warm architectural lights throughout adjusted to suit the event. No strobe lighting will be used.
Quieter Room
There is no dedicated quiet room. The ground floor remains noticeably quieter during mezzanine performances, though ambient sound does travel between floors.
