With the sole intention of waking the most frightening, horrific and disgraceful creature known to nature, Professors Frank and McStein have set up their dastardly M.O.N.S.T.E.R. LAB

Guided by diabolical professors Frank and McStein and their eminent colleagues and their team of Igors, work your way through the fire-powered and interactive stations, earn yourself power-up tokens and feed them into the MONSTER-O-METER.

 

The MONSTER-O-METER will grant the life force needed to awaken THE CREATURE!!!

 

What will happen next?

Ticketing

This is a free but ticketed event. Tickets will be available from Tuesday 1 October.

Arrival

Dublin Castle is located off Dame Street, and while most of the pathways are paved within Dublin Castle, parts of the courtyard are cobbled and on an incline but these areas are easy to avoid. The Dublin Castle end of Dame Street is inclined, and parts of these pathways are cobbled and may be obstructed by bins and locked bikes.

 

The closest step-free Luas stops are St Stephen’s Green (1km away) on the Green Line and Jervis (750m away) on the Red Line.

There are no parking facilities available at Dublin Castle. The nearest accessible parking is available in Q-Park Christchurch car park and Park Rite Drury Street. Accessible on street parking is available on Castle Street but please note that these spaces are on a hill. 

 

Pick up and drop off is available on Castle Street and Great Ship Street. 

 

Entry

Guests will enter Dublin Castle via the pedestrian gate on Palace Street (beside Chez Max). This courtyard is slightly uphill and the ground is partly covered in cobblestones. Some of the pathways along the edges of the courtyard are paved.

Space

Dublin Castle consists of various government buildings and  multiple preserved buildings, some of the earliest buildings were established in the 13th Century, others built in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. This event is taking place outdoors in the Upper Courtyard. It is a large open square, surrounded by Georgian buildings.

There will be no toilets available at this event.

Bar

There will be no bar at this event.

Performance Space 

The courtyard is all one level, but some surfaces will be uneven. Please note that this is an outdoor event, and while some areas are sheltered, be prepared for all weather types.

Seating

There are a limited number of seats available on a matter of need – if you need to sit down at any point, please ask someone in a festival hi-vis vest to get you a chair.

Sound

Sound is a constant feature of the event Frank & McStein’s Monster Laboratory, with some of the music being loud and dramatic. A multi-speaker system will be used with different sounds in different areas of Dublin Castle for this event, with a low level soundscape playing at all times. The performers will be using mics that will be played through the main PA system, and music from a live band will also play through the PA system.

Lighting

Atmospheric lighting and fire will be part of this performance. This event takes place in the evening as it gets dark.

Quieter Room

There is no designated quiet room at this venue, but a social story of the performance will be available. A limited number of ear defenders will be available for those that may need them upon entering the event. Please ask a member of the crew when you are inside. We have a limited supply and they are reserved for a matter of need.
